The Tudor Merchants Hall, situated alongside the Westgate in the older part of Southampton is not actually Tudor but a much older Medieval building. The name 'Tudor Merchants Hall' was given to it after the 1975 restoration. It had previously been called The Tudor Guards' House - but the building was never a guards' house either!
So what was this mysterious building?
