In 1632 the building was in a bad state and the Town Council sold it to Alderman Edward Exton on the condition her take it down and rebuild it somewhere else. In 1634 Exton bought the building for 20 marks and moved it to an area of land he leased by the Westgate. He filled in the open arcade to create a warehouse.
Since then the building has had a number of owners and uses until the council regained ownership and used it as a museum store and workshop in the 20th century.
In 1975 the hall was taken apart and renovated before starting a new life as a venue for wedding receptions, lectures and meetings.
